The X-Men #48
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeSpotlighted on this September 1968 issue are Cyclops and Marvel Girl, shown locked in fierce combat against a massive armored robotic figure — almost certainly Computo — while dozens of smaller mechanical drones swarm the surrounding space. Marvel Girl, in her green costume, and Cyclops, his optic blast cutting through the air in a vivid pink streak, are clearly outmatched in numbers if not in spirit, making for a genuinely gripping cover composition by John Romita. The cover tagline "What Waits… Within the Hive?" sets up a science-fiction threat that feels both urgent and imaginative, a great example of late-'60s Marvel storytelling ambition at its most inventive.
