History

Published in December 1985 as a double-sized 41-page anniversary issue, #200 was written by Chris Claremont and pencilled by John Romita Jr. with inks by Dan Green — the regular creative team that had been building toward this narrative inflection point for years, particularly through Xavier's worsening injuries first established around issue #192. The story is set immediately after the crossover events of New Mutants Special #1 and Uncanny X-Men Annual #9 (the Asgard arc), grounding its scale in the broader continuity Claremont was carefully weaving at the time. Colorist Glynis Oliver and letterer Tom Orzechowski also contributed to the full creative package.

First appearance of Andrea and Andreas von Strucker operating as the terrorist duo Fenris (the twins themselves debuted earlier in #194, but took the Fenris identity here for the first time).
Professor Charles Xavier leaves Earth — evacuated by the Starjammers (Corsair, Lilandra, Ch'od, Hepzibah, Raza, Sikorsky, and Waldo) for life-saving medical treatment — and charges Magneto with running the Xavier School and protecting the New Mutants.
Magneto stands trial before the International Court of Justice in Paris, charged with crimes against humanity including the destruction of Soviet submarines; Gabrielle Haller serves as his defense attorney and Sir James Jaspers prosecutes.
