The Spirit battles criminals at an exclusive party held by Mrs. Van Mugwump, where small-time holdup expert Dolan infiltrates the gathering to rob the wealthy guests by forcing them into a group photograph that will allow him to steal their money and jewels. The Spirit confronts the criminals, leading to a chase and eventual confrontation. In a separate prose story, Inspector Cyril Clayton of the Secret Police investigates opium smuggling in Attak by using carrier pigeons fitted with a special ultrasonic whistle device to disrupt the pigeons traditionally used by smugglers to transport drugs.
