The Spirit pursues a criminal who has kidnapped a young boy and taken him to a rooftop, discovering the kidnapper is actually Mokwa, a monkey. After a chase sequence involving The Spirit and police pursuing across rooftops and through buildings, Mokwa escapes. In the main text story, reporter Tody and Police Chief Sterns devise a scheme to locate the missing Prince Illna by having Tody's father impersonate the prince's voice over a telephone line, ultimately resulting in the discovery that Illna's son Kenu is alive and reunited with his ailing father.
