The Spirit #5
Part of DC's First Wave line, this 2010 issue of Will Eisner's The Spirit plunges the masked hero into a desperate winter chase — Ladrönn's cover captures him sprinting across cracking ice in his signature white shirt and red tie, carrying an unconscious figure over his shoulder while a small army of armed, overcoated gunmen closes in from behind through the falling snow. The tension and atmosphere are palpable, with the splintering ice beneath his feet adding an extra layer of peril to an already dire situation. The issue also boasts a second feature — a Black & White Spirit story by David Lapham and Michael Wm. Kaluta — making this one genuinely satisfying package.
