The Spirit #15
The Spirit confronts criminal Turak, head of an underworld faction, after receiving a tip from Madame Larna via crystal ball about a police campaign against illegal phones. When Turak refuses to cooperate, the Spirit uses his wits—discovering that Turak's henchmen filled their getaway vehicle with air instead of gasoline by tangling the hoses—to trap the criminals and expose their plot. A man named Maurice van Vleet attempts to extort money from the Spirit by threatening to reveal his midnight deadline for delivering payment, but the Spirit turns the tables, ultimately foiling van Vleet's scheme as the clock strikes midnight.
