The Spirit #14
The Spirit and his companion Ebony infiltrate a carnival to capture the escaped criminal Muscles Magee, who has been hidden at the show. After a confrontation at the carnival's "Blotto the Bloodless Man" exhibit, the Spirit and Inspector Dolan are captured by Muscles, but manage to free themselves and overcome him with assistance from the police. The issue concludes with the criminals jailed and the Spirit and Ebony recovering a phonograph and recorder that Muscles had won as a prize.
In "Mad Moes," the government’s plan to build a dam hits a snag when the land in question belongs to a reclusive, map-less hermit known only as the Lizard. With no official records to justify acquisition, the project stalls—until Stud Sharpe sees a golden opportunity to turn the unclaimed territory into a high-stakes gambling den.
