The Spectre #9

DC's supernatural avenger takes center stage in this December 1987 entry in the series, with a cover by Mike Mignola that crackles with eerie atmosphere — the Spectre, green cloak billowing dramatically, surges upward toward a scythe-wielding skeleton perched atop jagged rocks, while a grinning skull lurks at lower left amid tangled thorns. The composition captures the series' signature blend of cosmic horror and superhero energy perfectly. Written by Doug Moench with interior art by Gray Morrow, "Drowning in a Dry Sea" promises exactly the kind of dark, imaginative storytelling this title does so well.
