The Spectre #41

Ariel Olivetti's painted cover for issue #41 sets an appropriately nightmarish tone, depicting a grey-skinned, green-hooded Spectre locked in a brutal struggle with a horned demonic figure, both framed against a vast, eerie full moon surrounded by stormy purple skies. Flames and skeletal remains smolder at their feet while a second reptilian demon looms overhead, making the scene feel genuinely cosmic in its menace. John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake's 1996 run on The Spectre consistently delivered this kind of supernatural intensity, and "Merchants of Vengeance" looks to be no exception.
