Part of DC's 1987 "New Format" initiative, this fourth issue of The Spectre brings together writer Doug Moench and artist Gene Colan for a story titled "The Lacquer Look." José Luis García-López's cover says it all: a terrified gunman, spent shell casings scattering at his feet, recoils in sheer panic as the massive, hooded white-and-green figure of the Spectre looms above him like a force of divine judgment. It's a wonderfully unsettling image that captures exactly the kind of dread this series does so well.
