The Spectre looms in his green hood and cowl at the center of this moody 1987 cover by Michael Wm. Kaluta, clutching a blue book and a dripping candle while a grotesque red demonic form twists up beside him — all rendered in Kaluta's signature blend of eerie elegance and supernatural dread. Dominating the background is an enormous face with piercing magenta eyes, bathing the whole scene in an unsettling, otherworldly atmosphere. With Doug Moench writing and Gene Colan on interior art, this "New Format" DC series was clearly committed to pushing the Spirit of Vengeance into genuinely haunting territory.
