History

The series was announced in November 2023 and launched March 6, 2024, with issue #2 following on April 17, 2024. Greg Weisman — creator of the beloved 2008–2009 Spectacular Spider-Man animated series and co-creator of Gargoyles — was brought in specifically because of his history with the character and his skill at balancing ensemble casts, while Humberto Ramos, a longtime Amazing Spider-Man artist, joined as penciller to give the book a kinetic, fluid visual energy. Editor Nick Lowe oversaw the project, which Marvel positioned as a response to the cultural momentum Peter and Miles had accumulated across the Into the Spider-Verse films and the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 video game. The first arc, "Arachnobatics," was later collected in a trade paperback gathering issues #1–5 alongside material from Web of Spider-Man (2024) #1.

The morgue sequence reunites Detective Shari Sebbens (introduced in Tom Taylor's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Vol. 2 #2, January 2019), forensic specialist Carlie Cooper, and Jane Foster to examine a corpse whose cells have explosively ruptured — Spider-Man suspects a Jackal clone.
Peter and Miles follow the erratic ESU student Cedric Harrison into the sewers, where they battle Vermin clones before Shift (Miles Morales' clone, a recurring presence in Miles' solo title) intervenes and breaks up the fight.
Arcade and Mentallo appear only in cameo in this issue; their full role as co-architects of the underground Arcadium virtual-reality facility — funded by Hammerhead — is established across the broader first arc.
The Jackal (Miles Warren) is referenced but does not appear in person; his brother Professor Raymond Warren continues to be positioned as a suspicious supporting figure at ESU.
The issue was reprinted in its entirety in Free Marvel Must-Haves: August 2024 Vol. 1 #1, a sampler Marvel distributed to introduce new readers to the series.
