“Brother's Keeper”

The cover of this January 1996 issue says it all: a massive, dripping, gray-skinned creature looms over a flattened Spider-Man, pinning the wall-crawler face-down beneath its crushing bulk while the tagline promises "Death By—" whatever horror this thing represents. Sal Buscema and Jimmy Palmiotti deliver a wonderfully unsettling image that makes the "Return of…" banner feel genuinely ominous. "Brother's Keeper," written by Todd DeZago with interior art by Buscema and Palmiotti, looks to put Spider-Man through a seriously rough day.
