Queen Hippolyta sculpts a statue of a girl from clay, and Aphrodite gives it life, and names her Diana. Years later, Steve Trevor crashes just off Paradise Island, and is rescued by Diana and Mala. The queen decides to hold a contest to take Trevor back to the world of men, but won't allow her daughter Diana to enter it. Having fallen in love with Trevor, Diana enters anyway as a masked contestant, and wins. Her mother relents, and she is bestowed with the costume, magic lasso, and invisible plane, becoming Wonder Woman.
