The image perfectly captures the brutal, elemental energy that made Marvel's black-and-white Conan magazine a standout of its era. Inside, Roy Thomas and Danette Couto script "The Sea of No Return," brought to life by the artwork of Ernie Colón and inker Ernie Chan.

Conan comes to the small state of Ravonna, where princess Crigatha is about to marry the king of Alcalais. The Cimmerian is caught up in court politics. Jabezo, the emissary from Alcalais, sets one nobleman against the other - until he is murdered. Conan is hired as the princess' bodyguard for the journey to Alcalais, but as it turns out, Jabezo is not dead: he is an evil wizard who decades ago manipulated a chamber maid into killing the king and the queen and then pose as a mutilated queen mother. All is part of a plan to marry the young princess and take over Ravonna. Conan halts the plan.
