“The Reign of Thulandra Thuu”

In "The Reign of Thulandra Thuu," Conan's brief reign as King of Aquilonia is shattered when the exiled court magician, Thulandra Thuu, orchestrates a deadly coup—faking Conan’s death and taking his place. With the help of Alcina, a former assassin seeking redemption, Conan returns from the brink to reclaim his throne and confront the deception. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Ernie Chan, with a striking cover by Julie Bell, this 1993 tale blends political intrigue and brutal vengeance in the heart of Conan’s savage world.

Conan has just crowned himself King of Aquilonia, but members of the court are already conspiring against him with the former court magician Thulandra Thuu, who seeks the crown for himself. Thulandra Thuu attacks Conan and leaves him for dead, while he assumes Conan's appearance and lives the life of a king. Conan is saved by the dancer Alcina, who once tried to poison Conan, but who now hopes to be forgiven. Conan returns to kill the impostor, and the conspiring noblemen live to try again another day.
