The Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom #1

Chris Samnee's cover puts the Rocketeer front and center, blasting through an amber sky with rocket exhaust billowing at his heels as massive propeller-driven aircraft loom on either side of him — it's a pulp-adventure image that crackles with speed and danger. Mark Waid and Samnee team up for this 2012 IDW series, and if this opening issue's cover is any indication, they're leaning hard into the retro-aviation thrills that make the character so appealing. A fine starting point for anyone who loves jet-packed heroics set against the roar of radial engines.
