The New Titans #103

From a 1993 DC lineup that consistently pushed its teen heroes to the limit, The New Titans #103 — "Interface" — delivers a visceral cover by Bill Jaaska showing a screaming, red-suited figure lunging forward in raw desperation, while a black-and-white costumed hero fights alongside and a grotesque, fang-filled creature looms at the edge of the frame. Marv Wolfman's long-running stewardship of these characters, backed here by the inking of Dave Simons and Steve George and colors by Adrienne Roy, promises the kind of high-stakes tension the series does so well. If that snarling monster on the cover is any indication, "Soul Asylum" — the teased story element front-and-center — is going to make life very difficult for the Titans.
