This October 1980 issue of Legion of Super-Heroes delivers eight extra pages of story in what the cover boldly calls a "Book Length Extravaganza." George Pérez and Terry Austin's cover pulls no punches: a wild-eyed, white-haired villain in a blue suit looms over a tangle of fallen Legionnaires — among them recognizable members like Karate Kid, Chameleon Boy, and Dream Girl — chained and sprawled across a maze of machinery, while he reaches toward the reader with a chilling taunt about dying "not once — but a thousand times!" The roster portrait strip along the left side showcases Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy, Ultra Boy, Chameleon Boy, Karate Kid, Colossal Boy, and Dream Girl, hinting at the full ensemble caught up in the harrowing "Life after Life after Life.
