The Kilroys seek employment as a lifeguard at Lake McVouty, where they experience comedic mishaps during their first day on the job. When their car breaks down on the way to work, they hitchhike with a truck driver who ultimately provides them a tow, only to have them cause trouble at a gas station. Back at the beach, the family's antics with their sterilizing equipment lead to further chaos, culminating in damage to the gas tank at the beach facility.

Pop Wins Out!
7 pp · Humor

When Edgar Kilroy spots a prize-winning quiz show offering a free refrigerator, he decides to make his shot—filling out stack after stack of penny postcards with celebrity guesses to nail the "mystery voice" contest. His wife Emma gets drawn into the scheme too, and between Edgar's late-night cramming sessions and her last-minute substitutions, one of their guesses finally lands the jackpot. But winning a fortune in free prizes comes with a price tag nobody saw coming, and Pop discovers that "winning" on a game show isn't quite the victory he imagined.

To the Rescue!

Natch lands a summer job as a life guard at Lake McCouty to earn money for fall school clothes, and when his best pal Jackson hears about it, he decides to get a job himself to fund his own wardrobe. Jackson tracks down Natch at the lake and manages to land the assistant life guard position right there alongside him. The two pals are reunited for the summer, ready to keep watch over the swimming crowd—though knowing these Kilroys, their time on duty promises to be anything but routine.

Man of Distinction
8 pp · Humor

J. Edgar Kilroy, the put-upon office janitor and general dogsbody for the arrogant J.P. Gotrocks, gets mistaken for his boss when photographers arrive to shoot a "Man of Distinction" for an advertising spread—and the mix-up lands him in a newspaper photo that transforms his entire life overnight. Suddenly everyone wants to know him, his boss is begging him back as a partner, and the family that once underestimated him can't get enough of his newfound fame. A sharp little humor piece about how perception can shift everything, even if the truth is just a case of being in the right place at the wrong time.

The Trucksters
8 pp · Humor

When Natch's jalopy breaks down on a cross-country drive, a helpful truck driver offers to tow the boys to safety—but forgets to mention it to his sleeping partner, leading to a wild ride that carries them far past their hometown. As worried parents back in Pointfalls search frantically for the missing kids, the truck drivers barrel through the night, unaware their young passengers are still hitched to the back of the rig. It's a comedy of errors where nobody knows what's happening until everyone's where they need to be again.

Solid Jackson
7 pp · Humor

When a young man named Jackson ditches his movie date to go smooching with a girl named Judy instead, he doesn't realize his own parents have borrowed his car for the exact same romantic moonlit drive—and he's determined to sabotage the whole evening. What follows is a hilarious chain of misunderstandings and comeuppances as Jackson's scheme to spy on his rival backfires spectacularly in this 1948 humor romp from The Kilroys.
