About this Collection

This volume collects the complete 12-issue miniseries The Kents, published by DC in 2000. Written by John Ostrander and illustrated by Tom Mandrake, the story delves into the 19th-century history of the Kent family, exploring the lives of Superman's ancestors during the American frontier era. It presents a gritty, revisionist Western saga that connects the family's legacy of justice to the future Man of Steel.

In 1873, Joshua returns to Smallville after John Wesley Hardin murders his father, but Nate talks him out of seeking vengeance. As Taylor works alongside Jeb in their crimes he becomes increasingly murderous. Using Mary as an intermediary, Jeb arranges to have Nate ambush his entire gang in Smallville. Taylor resists arrest and attacks Nate and his posse; during the clash, Taylor kills Jeb, but Joshua kills Taylor; Nate buries Jeb next to their parents. Jonathan Kent concludes his narrative to Clark by briefly summarizing the fates of the Kents' associates such as Jesse James.
