“A Puzzlebox [Chapter 3]: A Hired Gun Hired for What?”

Chip Zdarsky's cover for this 2021 DC anthology series entry is a masterclass in unsettling atmosphere — the Joker, wrists bound in chains, gives a thumbs-up beneath a single overhead light while half his face disappears into deep shadow, a massive jigsaw puzzle pattern looming behind him. That confident, chained gesture perfectly captures the character's maddening blend of menace and showmanship. Written by Matthew Rosenberg with art from Jesús Merino, Dominike 'Domo' Stanton, and Juni Ba, issue three of A Puzzlebox promises another layered, multi-artist exploration of Gotham's most unpredictable villain.

Gordon and Bullock continue to interrogate the Joker, while other detectives interrogate Two-Face, trying to piece together the events that led to the murder of the Riddler. In flashback, we see The Joker pay Two-Face a visit, leading to Harvey confronting Deathstroke over possession of one of the artifacts, while Catwoman sends Man-Bat to get one of the other artifacts that Killer Moth is after.
