The Invisibles #3

Issue three of Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell's boundary-pushing DC Vertigo series opens with a genuinely unsettling cover by Sean Phillips: a wild-eyed figure with dreadlocks tumbles headlong through a vivid red sky, Tower Bridge and the London cityscape receding dizzily far below. The disorienting perspective and eerie blue palette give the whole image a hallucinatory, freefall energy that fits "Down and Out in Heaven and Hell, Part 2" perfectly. A strong early chapter in one of Vertigo's most ambitious series of 1994.
