In the combat trial of seven, Dunk defeats Aerion, forcing him to withdraw his accusation. After the battle, Baelor removes his helmet to reveal a shattered skull and dies. At the funeral, his son, Valaar, bids Dunk to leave. Later, Maekar asks Dunk to keep Egg as his squire and also offers him a place in his household.
