“Death Takes a Taxi”

Against a vivid yellow sky, Dan Gormley's cover for this October 1941 Dell anthology crackles with aerial action — a goggled aviator in an orange flight suit dangles from a low-flying aircraft, reaching down to snag a startled man in green as rocky terrain rushes up below. A banner proudly announces the featured star, Captain Midnight, while a smaller inset panel spotlights Phantasmo alongside what appears to be a vessel or craft of some kind. Two great pulp-era heroes for a dime made The Funnies one of the era's most entertaining anthology titles, and this issue looks like a particularly energetic entry.
