The Flintstones #2
DC's 2016 reimagining of Bedrock gets a sharp satirical edge in issue #2, and Amanda Conner's cover sets the tone perfectly: Fred and Barney look thoroughly overwhelmed inside a prehistoric shoe boutique called "Bloomingshale's," surrounded by stone-age parodies of luxury brands — "Pradozoa," "Mammotho Blahnik," "Stegosaur Ferragamo" — while Wilma and Betty appear far more at ease amid the consumer chaos. It's a wonderfully layered visual gag that makes clever use of the Flintstones' trademark wit, translating modern retail culture into a world of dinosaur-hide footwear and bone accessories. With Mark Russell writing and Steve Pugh on interiors, this series was already proving itself a smart, funny take on the Hanna-Barbera classic right from its earliest issues.
