The Flash #27
Part of the "Running Scared" arc, this 2017 DC Universe Rebirth issue delivers a genuinely gut-punch cover by Carmine Di Giandomenico: a battered, maskless Flash crackles with yellow lightning as he desperately crawls across shattered ground, while a fallen figure in a yellow costume lies broken and motionless in the background. The bold "ROADKILL!" tagline and streaks of blood make clear that the Speed Force showdown has taken a brutal toll on both speedsters. With Joshua Williamson writing and art from Howard Porter and Paul Pelletier, this conclusion to "Running Scared" looks like one of the arc's most harrowing chapters.
