The Creeper #5

The penultimate chapter of this six-issue DC miniseries pits two of comics' most unsettling grins against each other — and Shawn McManus's cover captures that tension beautifully, with a snarling, fists-raised Creeper standing defiant atop a gargoyle-lined ledge while the Joker's enormous, leering face looms out of the shadows behind him. The scale contrast alone tells you everything about the stakes heading into the finale. With Steve Niles writing and Steve Scott on interiors, "Welcome to Creepsville" promises the kind of dark, unhinged energy that makes this matchup such an irresistible concept.
