“La Toña”

In "La Toña," Gilbert Hernandez crafts a quietly unsettling journey through the streets of Palomar, where photographer Howard Miller’s lens captures more than just faces—he stumbles into a moment that blurs the line between perception and reality. When a chance meeting with Tonantzin sparks an unexpected connection, Miller’s exploration of the town’s forgotten ruins leads to a disorienting experience that lingers long after he returns home, where he finds her waiting, as if she’d been expecting him all along. The story’s atmosphere is drawn with the unmistakable hand of Gilbert Hernandez, while the cover by Jaime Hernandez captures the dreamlike tension of the tale.
