☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis volume from the Chilling Archives of Horror Comics series, published by IDW and Yoe Books, collects a selection of pre-Code horror comics from the 1950s, presenting the unexpurgated, often shocking tales that defined the genre before the Comics Code Authority cracked down. Featuring work by a variety of artists and writers from the era, it showcases the grim, macabre, and sometimes gruesome stories that earned these comics their notorious reputation. The title's playful nod to their quality and scare factor underscores the collection's focus on the raw, unfiltered creativity of pre-Code horror.
"Wings of Death!" from The Chilling Archives of Horror Comics! #10 (2015, IDW; Yoe Books) delivers a chilling tale of love, loss, and unintended consequences. Written and illustrated by Eugene Hughes, this story follows a scientist whose desperate attempt to save his wife through cryogenic suspension ends in tragedy when his clumsiness shatters her frozen form—leaving him to painstakingly reassemble her into a grotesque, jigsaw-like creature. The cover, a haunting piece by Lee Elias, perfectly captures the story’s eerie tone.
