The Brave and the Bold #49

DC's Brave and the Bold #49 from September 1963 spotlights the Strange Sports Stories era with a cover by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson that stops you cold: a baseball player in full uniform slides hard into home plate, where an enormous gorilla is waiting to make the tag as an umpire lunges in to call the play. That wild image perfectly teases Gardner Fox's story "Gorilla Wonders of the Diamond!" — a premise only Silver Age comics could deliver with a completely straight face, and all for just twelve cents.
