Part 1 of the 1991 "Subterranean Wars" crossover event, this 64-page annual drops the Avengers — including a visibly strained She-Hulk and several teammates — directly into an overwhelming tide of pale, snarling subterranean creatures in a cavernous underground setting. Tom Morgan's cover does an impressive job conveying sheer scale, packing the image edge-to-edge with swarming figures while still keeping the Avengers' struggle front and center. If you enjoy Marvel's underground mythology and epic team-versus-horde battles, this is a satisfying place to start the saga.
