Kala
Kala is the queen of Netheria, a subterranean civilization hidden beneath the Earth's surface. Driven to conquer the surface world, she became entangled with underground power players including Tyrannus and the Mole Man, bringing her into repeated conflict with Marvel's surface-world heroes.
Emerging from the Bronze Age Marvel universe in 1981, Kala made her debut in The Incredible Hulk #263, brought to life by the legendary creative pairing of Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. Over nearly four decades, this Marvel figure has kept remarkable company — sharing pages with the Hulk, Bruce Banner, Iron Man, and the subterranean schemers Harvey Elder and Tyrannus — a roster that hints at stories of considerable scale and intrigue. Her appearances span some of Marvel's most beloved collected editions, from Avengers West Coast Annual to the Incredible Hulk by Peter David Omnibus, and at least one of her issues carries key-issue status among collectors. Rare in the catalog but rich in context, Kala is exactly the kind of deep-cut Marvel character that rewards the curious fan willing to dig a little deeper.
