Avengers #94 is the sixth chapter of the Kree-Skrull War, Roy Thomas's nine-issue saga that shattered Marvel's self-imposed limit on continued stories and established that the Avengers could sustain a genuinely epic, cosmos-spanning narrative. The issue delivers the debut of the Mandroids — S.H.I.E.L.D. power-armor suits secretly designed by Tony Stark to neutralize his own teammates — a concept that would echo through decades of Marvel storytelling about heroic accountability and institutional distrust. It also marks a pivotal structural turn in the arc: the Vision infiltrates a Skrull vessel, Captain Marvel and his captive Avengers face Emperor Dorrek VII on the Skrull throneworld, and Triton's surprise emergence at the cliffhanger ending pulls the Inhumans into the war's orbit. Writer Roy Thomas and penciler Neal Adams had set an extraordinary pace for the arc: Adams had delivered a fully penciled 34-page story for the preceding issue #93, but the transition to Marvel's new standard-length, 20-cent format for #94 meant only 23 pages of art and story were required. Despite this, Thomas continued structuring each installment as a series of titled chapters, each inspired by a science-fiction work — the lead chapter of #94, 'More Than Inhuman!', took its name from Theodore Sturgeon's 1953 novel More Than Human. Adams and Thomas have each given differing accounts of why John Buscema was brought in to pencil the 10-page middle chapter of the issue, with neither creator's version fully corroborated; Tom Palmer inked throughout, providing visual continuity across the two pencilers, and Stan Lee served as editor-in-chief.
