“The Strange Body in the Purple Trunks!”

DC's long-running humor series finds Jerry Lewis in full cowboy mode on this 1969 cover, gleefully hollering "Oil! I found oil! Oh joy! This is my lucky day!" as a geyser of black crude erupts at his feet. Bob Oksner surrounds our oblivious hero with a wonderfully chaotic desert menagerie — a charging bull, a coiled rattlesnake, a scorpion, a swooping vulture, and a leaping mountain lion — while a small companion cheerfully calls out "Lotsa luck, Uncle Jer!" from a safe distance. It's a perfectly pitched snapshot of the slapstick spirit that made The Adventures of Jerry Lewis "America's Funniest Comic Mag.
