Tex Ritter uses his dog Fury to help retrieve dynamite with a long fuse intended to create an explosion, which Fury successfully retrieves and brings back. Later, Tex encounters a ranger and discusses the Chico Kid and his gang, who have been causing trouble in the area for three days. Tex insists on going after them alone despite the ranger's concerns about lacking ammunition. In Pecos Fork, Tex meets Ginger Williams, the daughter of the Prairie Plunger, and learns that the Chico Kid has been sighted nearby; Tex warns that three captured outlaws are trying to escape from jail, and Ginger thanks him for the information.
