Tex Ritter Western #18
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeTex Ritter investigates a stagecoach accident involving a young driver named Tom Lodder, concerned the incident may not be what it appears. Tex discovers that a woman named Mary Hodges, who stands to inherit a substantial sum of money, is somehow connected to the case, and he must determine whether she is involved in foul play. The issue also features a backup story, "Buffalo Bull: The Horse Brigade," in which Buffalo Bull organizes a group of young riders into "the Horse Brigade" and boasts of his unmatched horsemanship and knowledge, only to be challenged by talk of an uncatchable wild mustang called Black and Blue Beauty.
When old man Hodges dies, a scheme to claim his estate sets in motion—a woman posing as his niece Mary Hodges arrives in Cederville while the real Mary travels by stagecoach toward town. Tex Ritter must uncover the truth behind a mysterious robbery and disappearance before the inheritance falls into the wrong hands and innocent lives are lost.
When Loonie Les ventures into a fancy restaurant for the first time, he and his companion puzzle over the menu—and Les offers up his own hilariously literal interpretation of what "cold boiled ham" really means. It's a quick dose of Western humor that plays on a country fellow's no-nonsense approach to the finer things.
When a group of young riders decides to form the Horse Brigade, they recruit Buffalo Bill to lead them—mainly because he won't stop bragging about his legendary horsemanship and tales of catching the wild mustang Black and Blue Beauty. The kids hold him to his word with a promise he can't refuse, but when it comes time for the parade down Main Street, they spring a surprise that proves the boastful leader may have finally met his match.
Hammerhead's so bashful he won't even ask a gal to dance at the local shindig—and his shyness runs so deep that he once won a school prize for being the most bashful kid but was too timid to claim it! It's a lighthearted look at a cowpoke whose real obstacle isn't outlaws or horses, but his own nerves.
