Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #14
The Image Comics era of TMNT had a knack for dark, ambitious visuals, and issue #14 (April 1998) delivers a striking example: a heavily armored, skull-faced figure grapples with a winged, dagger-wielding creature against a stormy graveyard backdrop — all rendered with brooding intensity by cover penciler Frank Fosco and inker Erik Larsen. The gothic cemetery setting, complete with crosses and scattered bones, sets a tone far removed from lighter takes on the franchise. If you appreciate the grittier side of the Turtles' universe, this issue's cover alone makes a compelling case for picking it up.
