Tank Girl #4

The fourth and final issue of Dark Horse's 1991 Tank Girl miniseries closes out the run with a cover by Jamie Hewlett that's as playful as the character herself — Tank Girl's grinning, winking face fills an ornate golden portrait frame, complete with a band-aid on her cheek, mismatched earrings, and a cassette-tape headband tucked under her cap. Perched atop the frame is a grinning, halo-wearing cartoon creature that perfectly captures the series' anarchic, anything-goes energy. Hewlett's linework here is confident and loose, making this a thoroughly fitting send-off image for one of comics' most irreverent antiheroes.
