Swamp Thing Annual #2

Swamp Thing towers at the center of this unsettling 1985 annual, surrounded by a churning sea of skulls, skeletons, and unearthly figures that perfectly evoke the "Sophisticated Suspense" banner DC proudly displays at the top. A cloaked figure in a wide-brimmed hat looms to the left while a red-costumed hero soars overhead, and a yellow-clawed demon presses close at Swamp Thing's side — all rendered with remarkable atmospheric dread in cover art by Stephen R. Bissette and John Totleben. With Alan Moore writing and Bissette and Totleben on interior art as well, "Down Amongst the Dead Men" promises exactly the kind of genuinely eerie storytelling this creative team delivered so well.
