Jimmy feels something is missing in his life and career, so he pursues getting more information on the flying man he saw while Superman was fighting Atlas. He traces him back to Jonathan Drew. The trail then leads to Andrew Stone, who gives Jimmy a folder on Drew and Codename: Assassin just before being shot dead. Jimmy flees, with Codename: Assassin in pursuit, but Jimmy manages to escape. He reads the contents of the folder, and the history of Jonathan Drew and his powers. The trail leads next to Cadmus. Jimmy finds all his old Newsboy Legion associates have been murdered, and finally ends up at Cadmus itself, which is empty except for Dubbilex. Dubbilex gives Jimmy more information on Drew, tells him what happened to the original Guardian, and the Guardian's main clone, and tells Jimmy to find the clone, in a place called Warpath. Dubbilex then keels over dead, having been shot earlier. Jimmy goes to Warpath, and questions sheriff Greg Sanders about the clone, James Harper, with no answers. Jimmy later watches the sheriff in action, and sees him joined by the Guardian. Jimmy follows the Guardian to a trailer, where he reunites with James Harper and meets his daughter Gwendoline.
