Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #98
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeA wonderfully wild slice of Silver Age DC whimsy, this December 1966 issue of Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen features a cover by Curt Swan and George Klein that is impossible to ignore: a wide-eyed Jimmy Olsen in a leopard-print loincloth kneels before a massive, veil-wearing gorilla "bride," while Superman — wearing a feathered headdress and stirring a bubbling cauldron over an open flame — solemnly pronounces them "man and wife." A watching figure in a monk's robe protests that the joke has gone too far, making the whole scene a perfect snapshot of the gloriously absurd storytelling DC embraced in this era. Inside, Leo Dorfman writes with art by Pete Costanza, so the imaginative fun carries right through to the story.

Despite Jimmy's hammy performance in the previous "Sinister Safari" film, Metro Movies director von Spitz gives him a bit part in his latest jungle epic because of the "thousands of Jimmy Olsen fan clubs all over the world". The local tribe's sacred ape, Bruna, selects Jimmy as her mate (inspired by a viewing of King Kong's attraction to Ann Darrow).
