Superman and the Authority #3

This 2021 miniseries brings together an unconventional squad, and Mikel Janín's cover for issue #3 captures the team in striking fashion — Superman in his dark-toned costume surges upward alongside a luminous white-clad figure and several teammates, all erupting from a swirling storm of flame and dark energy that pours from a mysterious figure's crowned, glowing-eyed face at the bottom of the image. The sense of forces bursting free from something vast and threatening gives the composition a genuinely unsettling energy. With Grant Morrison scripting "Grimdark!" and Jordie Bellaire among the colorists, this is a series clearly unafraid to take Superman somewhere darker and stranger than usual.
