Superman #18

This May 2017 DC Universe Rebirth issue kicks off the "Superman Reborn" crossover event in genuinely exciting fashion, with a cover by Patrick Gleason that captures the Man of Steel mid-transformation — tearing open a plaid shirt to reveal the familiar red-and-blue costume beneath, his cape already flowing. Alongside him, a young boy (reaching out toward a leaping white dog) and a woman clinging warmly to his arm frame the scene with a strong sense of family, while a close-up of Superman's stoic face looms in the foreground against a softly colored background. With Tomasi and Gleason co-writing and Gleason also handling interior art, this is a polished, character-driven chapter that feels both personal and epic in equal measure.
