Supergirl #38
The tagline says it all — "Angels at War!" — as this November 1999 issue of Supergirl throws the Maid of Might into a harrowing confrontation with two supernatural powerhouses. The cover by Leonard Kirk and Robin Riggs is a striking composition: Supergirl and the winged angelic figure Zauriel face down the terrifying, green-hooded visage of the Spectre, whose enormous skull-eyed face dominates the foreground while a chain of golden energy crackles between them. Peter David's "City of Angels" story promises exactly the kind of cosmic, high-stakes clash that makes DC's supernatural corner so compelling.
