Supergirl #34
Paris becomes an unlikely battleground in this July 1999 installment of Peter David's run, with the Eiffel Tower looming dramatically behind a terrifying scene: a monstrous purple creature — the Parasite, fanged and feral — clutching an unconscious, blonde-haired Supergirl as they plummet past the iconic ironwork. Leonard Kirk and Robin Riggs's cover composition sells the peril beautifully, framing the heroine as completely at the mercy of this hulking, red-caped threat against a deepening twilight sky. The cover's own teasing headline — "Not the Paris site Supergirl had in mind…" — does all the work of making you want to flip straight to the first page.
