Nick Cardy's cover for this 1972 DC issue sets up a wonderfully strange underwater scene: Superboy swoops down through fish-filled ocean depths toward a girl in a pink dress — apparently the "Kooky Genius" Kathy — who strolls casually along the seafloor pulling a little red wagon, while another figure lingers nearby amid swaying seagrass. The cover promises the return of "The Kid with the Super-Brain," plus a new Legion saga, making this a nicely packed package from writer Cary Bates and interior artist Dave Cockrum. At just 20 cents, it's a charming snapshot of early-'70s DC storytelling at its most imaginatively offbeat.
