The cover of this April 1945 Dell anthology says it all: a mischievous freckle-faced boy with a painter's palette has sneaked a bull's-eye target onto the back of an unsuspecting heavyset fellow's yellow cape — just as a Native American archer draws his bow with perfect aim, a campfire crackling nearby. Walter Berndt's cover art delivers a wonderfully sly sight gag with great comic timing. Along the top, portrait panels remind readers that this anthology packs in a full roster of beloved newspaper-strip characters — Dick Tracy, Smitty, Tiny Tim, Harold Teen, and Winnie Winkle — all for just a dime.
