Suicide Squad #52

The cover of Suicide Squad #52 promises something genuinely unusual for April 1991: "A Doctor Light-Hearted Tale Starring the Devil and Mrs. Waller!" And the image delivers on that premise with relish — a wide-eyed, bug-out Dr. Light dominates the foreground, a knife pressed to his throat, while a horned, red-skinned Devil looms menacingly amid flames behind him, and a cross-armed Amanda Waller looks on with her trademark no-nonsense skepticism. Jim Fern's cover pencils and inks balance the comedic and the sinister perfectly, setting up what looks to be a darkly playful story from the team of Ostrander, Yale, Fern, and Campanella.
