L'inspecteur Quirt et son fils le policier Evan son sous le choc, lorsqu'ils sont appelés à constater la mort du quatrième mari d'Astrid Morgan, tout aussi mystérieuse que celles des autres. La victime est gisante dans une toile d'araignée. L'inspecteur commence à enquêter autour de la veuve. Elle ne tarde pas à se remarier, avec le jeune Billy. Le même soir, avec Evan surveillant sa fenêtre, Astrid se change en araignée géante. Il donne vite l'alerte et elle se change en petite araignée pour paraitre inaperçue. Une fois les renforts la cherchant , l'inspecteur l'écrase sans se douter de rien!
